Deco-Seal mastic replacement and calcium removal are two of the most overlooked maintenance services for any gunite pool, but both make a real difference in how your pool looks and how long it lasts. Excelsior Pool Services handles both as standalone services or as part of a full remodel.

Deco-Seal Mastic Replacement

The expansion joint between your pool coping and the surrounding deck is filled with a flexible mastic material called Deco-Seal. Over time, this material dries out, cracks, and pulls away from the joint, allowing water to seep underneath the coping and into the soil below. In North Texas, where the clay soil expands and contracts constantly, this water infiltration accelerates deck movement and can cause serious structural problems.

How do I know if my mastic needs replacing?

Look at the joint between your pool coping and the deck. If you see cracking, gaps, missing sections, or the material looks dried out and brittle, it's time to replace it. Most pools need this service every 5 to 10 years depending on sun exposure and soil movement.

Does it need to be done during a remodel?

No. Mastic replacement is a standalone service we can do at any time. Many homeowners have it done as a preventive measure before problems develop.

Calcium & Scale Removal

Hard water in the DFW area leads to calcium and mineral scale buildup on tile, coping, and pool shell surfaces over time. This shows up as a white or gray crusty line at the waterline, on tile grout, or on plaster surfaces. Beyond being unsightly, heavy calcium buildup can damage tile and make surfaces rough and difficult to clean.

Can you remove calcium without draining the pool?

Light to moderate calcium buildup on tile can often be treated without fully draining the pool. Heavy buildup or scale on the shell surface may require draining. We'll assess the situation and tell you what's needed before starting any work.

Will it come back?

Calcium buildup is a function of your water chemistry and the hardness of your local water supply. Keeping your calcium hardness levels in range and brushing the tile regularly will slow the buildup significantly. We can advise on the right maintenance routine after cleaning.
